Shawnee High School’s own Annaliese Price and Manuela Parada, accompanied by North Rock Creek students, Cameron Black and Hope Streater, led the Gordon Cooper Technology Center debate team to 1st place in the state at the Oklahoma HOSA Leadership Conference! Last week, our Director of Child Nutrition, Julia Jesseph, had the incredible opportunity to attend the Legislative Action Conference (LAC) in Washington, D.C. This event, hosted by the National School Nutrition Association, brings together nutrition professionals from across the country to advocate for healthy school meals for all students. Julia's journey to LAC was extra special—she was one of two sweepstakes winners after sharing a powerful child nutrition story! But more than that, she attended to ensure that our students' voices were heard on the importance of school meals and the challenges in providing them. She traveled alongside SNA of Oklahoma members and Professor Deana Hildebrand from OSU's Nutritional Sciences Department, connecting with fellow professionals dedicated to making a difference. And in a fun surprise—she even ran into Shawnee High School principal Matt Johnson at the D.C. airport, who was also attending an education conference! Thank you, Julia, for your dedication to our students and for representing Shawnee Public Schools on a national level!

Tonight, we had the honor of introducing our Teacher of the Year candidates at the Board of Education meeting. These incredible educators exemplify dedication, passion, and excellence in the classroom! SPS Student Kanynn Kaseca shares why she is #PublicSchoolProud: "Shawnee High isn’t just a school—it’s a place where potential is cultivated, friendships are formed, and leaders are made. Through challenging classes, diverse extracurriculars, and countless community service opportunities, Shawnee has shaped me into the strong, confident leader I am today. From competing in varsity sports to taking on leadership roles and engaging in volunteer work, each experience has taught me the value of hard work, teamwork, and resilience. But more importantly, I’ve learned that true success isn’t just about personal achievements—it’s about lifting each other up and making a positive impact on our community. To every student beginning their journey at Shawnee: Seize every opportunity. Get involved. Embrace the challenges. Take the risks. Your time here will equip you with the skills and confidence to shape your future—just as it has for me."

We love hearing why YOU are #PublicSchoolProud! Justin Dunn, a proud SPS parent and husband of a Shawnee teacher, shares why public education matters to him: "I was educated in public schools and am currently the parent of two public School students and the husband of a public school employee. Personally, public education was the avenue for my learning. I learned to relate to other people and I gained a foundation for my academic and vocational pursuits that I would not have otherwise received. As a parent, my children are learning to relate to others from a variety of backgrounds. They are learning to learn. We are able to be partners with the school in their education and development. It has been an incredibly rewarding experience. As a citizen, I think public education is the jewel of our community and our country. It provides opportunities for everyone. It provides a community with something to rally around and support and take authentic pride in. Students, regardless of background, socioeconomic situation, or anything else are able to learn and have the opportunity to thrive. The fact that I can be a part of that for my kids and all the kids in my community is awesome. Public education is not perfect, but people every day are giving their best efforts to see that every student can be at their best and have the opportunity to thrive in whatever they do. No matter who they are or where they have come from, EVERYONE GETS THE OPPORTUNITY."

Our Shawnee Wolves battled hard at the 5A East Regionals, securing 4 state qualifiers! We faced tough competition, pulled off some big wins, and had a few tough breaks, but our boys finished 8th overall in the region! State Qualifiers: Booker Dahlman– 4th Blayne Taber– 4th Kade Carter– 2nd Logan Skelton– 2nd Next up ➡️ State Tournament this week! Let’s go, Wolves!

What a celebration for Basketball Senior Night this past Friday evening, honoring eight incredible seniors for their dedication to Wolves basketball! 💙🤍 Recognized were Deetrick Beavers, Daytain Patton, Isaiah Smith, and Carter Whipkey for the Wolves, Serenity Casteel, Allyson McAlister, and Josie Megehee for the Lady Wolves, and manager Aniyla Thomas. Special recognition went to Josie Megehee for 2,000 career points, and Daytain Patton for 1,000-point milestone, each receiving a plaque from their coaches. 👏🏀 The celebration continued with big wins on the court—the Lady Wolves dominated 59-3, and the Wolves battled to a 48-42 victory. A night full of milestones, memories, and Wolves pride—congrats to our seniors!
