stadium under construction

Shawnee Wolves football will play their first home game at Jim Thorpe Stadium since the devastating April 19, 2023, tornado. This highly anticipated game marks a major milestone in the community’s recovery, as the stadium now boasts brand-new turf made possible by the generous support of several local sponsors, including Avedis Foundation, First United Bank, BancFirst, Arvest Bank, Sovereign Bank, Vision Bank, and Citizen Potawatomi Nation.

Right before the game, these sponsors will be honored in a special ceremony, recognizing their crucial role in helping restore Jim Thorpe Stadium and ensuring the Wolves have a beautiful new field to play on.

In addition to the new turf, the stadium features a state-of-the-art video scoreboard donated by community members, enhancing the game-day experience for fans and athletes alike. While construction at Jim Thorpe Stadium is still ongoing, a temporary press box will be in place for media and game officials.

"We're excited to be back on our home turf, playing under the Friday night lights at Jim Thorpe Stadium,” said Dax Leone, SPS Athletic Director. “The progress made in bringing this facility back to life reflects the strength and commitment of our entire community."

Exciting developments continue beyond the field. Construction of Avedis Plaza is underway, with picnic tables and a vibrant new mural set to be unveiled on September 27th. This addition will provide a welcoming space for fans to gather and celebrate their shared love of Shawnee Wolves football.

Join the Wolves for this momentous occasion as we return to our home field and continue to restore what makes our community strong. Kickoff for the first game is set for 7:00 p.m. Friday, September 13.
