Several Shawnee Public Schools students and teachers received awards during a ceremony at the Shawnee Masonic Temple on Sunday.

Shawnee High School Senior Clara Timmons received the Donald W. Askins Memorial Scholarship Award.

Local and state winners were recognized for the Rutherford/Clark Memorial Scholarship Senior Essay Awards. SHS Senior Gregorio Arzola was the first-place winner for boys for both the local and statewide contests and received $2,000. Senior Sarah Peters was the first-place winner for girls and the fourth-place winner in the state. Peters received $750.

Second-place winners in the local essay contest were Marilyn Bartley and Zion Hibben. Third-place winners were Ryanne Northam and Michael Batley.

Receiving Student and Teacher of Today Awards are the following:

Shawnee Early Childhood Center - Axel Most, Amelia Perry, and Teacher Carrie McCoy.

Horace Mann Elementary - Kynslee Sebren, Russell Tampus, and Teacher Christina Heck.

Jefferson Elementary - KimberLynn Allen, Paislee Hulbutta, Bryson Charlson, Destry Scott, and Teacher Paul Marshall.

Sequoyah Elementary - Aiden Endecott, Hailey Riggle, and Teacher Kathy Carrington.

Will Rogers Elementary - Lily Timmons, John Hagar, and Teacher Robyn Butler.

Shawnee Middle School - Kyle Williams, Court Van Dyne, and Teacher Doug Serre.

Shawnee High School - Clara Timmons, Gregorio Arzola, Megan Lomeli, Jayson Hair, and Teachers Savannah Greenwood, Cathy Megee, and Carol Jenkins.
