Dear Shawnee Families,

I want to make you aware of a situation that was brought to our attention.  All students and staff are safe.

Shawnee Public Schools administrators learned of a social media post that included threatening language about Oklahoma Baptist University. Because OBU is our community partner for varsity football and is near some of our school sites, our administration worked closely with OBU and Shawnee Police as they investigated the situation. Law enforcement officials have informed us they identified the suspect making the alleged threats and placed him in custody in Tulsa County.

The safety of Shawnee students and staff is always our number-one priority. We are thankful for Shawnee Police and OBU working closely with us to address potential safety concerns.

I want you to know I will always honor your choice of Shawnee Public Schools by communicating as openly and transparently as possible. When we work together, we can provide the best and safest educational experience for all students.

Sincerely,

Dr. Aaron Espolt
Superintendent
