Shawnee Wolves football fans will see a new face on the field in the upcoming season. Coach Jason Madonna was hired as the head coach of the SHS football program during the Shawnee Board of Education regular meeting Monday.

“We are incredibly excited for Coach Madonna to join us at Shawnee. When we were looking for the next head football coach at SHS, we wanted someone with a passion for developing great players and for helping our students reach their full potential,” said Dr. April Grace, superintendent. “Coach Madonna has that passion and a plan for working with all coaches district-wide to develop athletes from little league through high school.”

Madonna sees his role as a football coach as a calling.

“Some of the greatest relationships that helped motivate me were with educators,” Madonna said. “I value sports and the team environment so much that I want to provide that experience for the next generation.”

“Our family is thankful for the opportunity to become a part of the Shawnee community. We are committed to creating an environment for Shawnee Wolves to have success on and off the field,” he said.

An educator with 15 years of experience, Madonna comes to Shawnee from Del City High School, where he has served as the offensive coordinator since 2017. During his tenure, Del City’s offense averaged 33 points per game over six seasons, and averaged 41 points per game this past season.

Madonna previously served as head football coach at Bethel High School and as an assistant coach at Midwest City.

Coach Madonna is a 2002 Carl Albert High School graduate who played on the state championship teams in 1999, 2000, and 2001. He was an all-conference offensive lineman for Bethel College of Kansas, a program that was ranked in the top five nationally for rushing offense in 2006.
