Shawnee Public Schools is proud to take part in United Acts of Kindness Day, demonstrating a strong commitment to kindness and community service. Across the district, students and staff have organized special initiatives to spread kindness and give back to the community in meaningful ways.
At Horace Mann Elementary, students are collecting pet-related items to support Saving Pets at Risk (SPAR). In addition, they are creating a kindness quilt and spreading positivity through handwritten notes throughout the week. Second graders at Horace Mann have also partnered with First United Bank to craft Valentine’s Day cards for law enforcement officers and teachers, which will be distributed on United Acts of Kindness Day.
Jefferson Elementary is addressing food insecurity through its “Box Out Hunger” initiative, collecting boxed food items to donate to organizations within the Shawnee community. Their goal is to gather 1,000 boxes of food to support those in need.
Will Rogers Elementary is sharing encouragement by designing coloring sheets with pull tabs featuring positive messages. These have been delivered to local businesses and school sites to inspire kindness throughout the community.
Shawnee Early Childhood Center is assembling care baskets for the Shawnee Rescue Mission. Students and staff are collecting essential winter items, including gloves, scarves, hats, socks, toiletries, and more, to support individuals in need.
Shawnee Middle School is engaging students in a Kindness Challenge. Teachers are actively looking for acts of kindness throughout the week, with a friendly competition among grade levels to see which will demonstrate the most kindness.
Shawnee High School’s choir is taking their voices on tour for United Acts of Kindness Day, making stops at a nursing home, other school sites, and South Central Industries to spread cheer. Additionally, the freshmen leadership group is creating Valentines for all freshmen, ensuring that every student receives something special on Valentine's Day.
This initiative is in partnership with United Acts of Kindness Day, inspired by First United Bank. For more information, visit www.unitedactsofkindness.org.
