Dear Shawnee Public Schools Staff & Families,
As we move through flu season, we want to ensure our schools remain a healthy environment for all students and staff. To help prevent the spread of illness, we kindly ask that if your child is experiencing symptoms such as fever, cough, sore throat, vomiting, or diarrhea, please keep them home until they are symptom-free for at least 24 hours without medication.
Our district is taking steps to maintain a clean and safe environment, including:
Disinfecting high-traffic areas and frequently touched surfaces
Encouraging regular handwashing and the use of hand sanitizer
Reminding students to cover coughs and sneezes
You can also help by reinforcing healthy habits at home:
Prioritize rest: A good night’s sleep helps strengthen the immune system.
Eat nutritious meals: A balanced diet with fruits, vegetables, and protein fuels the body’s defense against illness.
Stay hydrated: Drinking plenty of water supports overall health.
Practice good hygiene: Encourage kids to wash hands often, avoid touching their face, and cover sneezes with their elbow or a tissue.
Stay active: Regular exercise helps keep the immune system strong.
Manage stress: A positive mindset and stress management contribute to overall wellness.
By working together, we can help keep our students and staff healthy and minimize the spread of illness. Thank you for your partnership in keeping our schools safe and well this season!
