The following communication was sent to SPS families on January 9, 2025 at 11:15 a.m.

Dear Shawnee Public Schools Families,

Based on the Pottawatomie County Commissioner's office communication regarding the road conditions near our schools, the county is working to keep the roadways safe. Due to the increased snowfall, beyond what was expected, Shawnee Public Schools will implement an early release schedule today, January 9. The safety of our students and staff remains our top priority, and this decision has been made to ensure everyone has adequate time to travel home safely before conditions worsen.

We encourage families to make necessary arrangements for pick-up and supervision as students arrive home earlier than usual.

Early Release Schedule:

  • Shawnee Early Childhood Center: 1:00 PM

  • Elementary Schools: 1:15 PM

  • Middle School: 1:45 PM

  • High School: 2:15 PM

All after-school activities, including practices and events, will be canceled for the day. If your child rides a school bus, transportation will run as scheduled, but please anticipate potential delays due to road conditions. We encourage families to download the My Ride K-12 app, which provides real-time updates on bus locations and estimated arrival times to minimize outdoor wait times. Details about the app can be found on our Transportation page at https://www.shawnee.k12.ok.us/page/transportation.

As
always, we respect and honor a parent’s choice to check out their child early during times of inclement weather. If you choose to do so, please ensure that you communicate directly with your child’s school so that the absence can be verified appropriately.

The safety of our students and staff remains our top priority, and we appreciate your cooperation and understanding during this time. If you have any questions or need further assistance, please do not hesitate to reach out to your child’s school office.

As an additional precaution, Shawnee Public Schools will also be CLOSED on Friday, January 10th.

Thank you for your understanding and cooperation. Please stay safe and warm!
