Shawnee Public Schools began the new year by empowering educators and staff with a day dedicated to growth, collaboration, and inspiration during the EmpowerED Winter 2025 Professional Development Day. The event brought together teachers and staff from across the district, joined by colleagues from Pleasant Grove Schools, for a morning of inspiration and a full day of hands-on learning opportunities.

The day opened with a compelling keynote address from Taylor Doe, who shared his message about “And Then” moments to inspire educators to unlock opportunities for students.

Throughout the day, staff members could attend six sessions tailored to their interests and needs. With more than 60 offerings, the sessions covered a broad spectrum of topics ranging from strategies for making mathematics engaging and innovative uses of the SPS app for parent-teacher communication to practical wellness sessions like meal prepping and discussions on fostering stronger classroom environments. Each session was designed to equip educators with tools and strategies they could apply to benefit their students.

The support of the Shawnee Area Ministerial Alliance provided a delicious breakfast and coffee for all teachers and staff. This gesture highlights the connection between Shawnee Public Schools and the local community.

“This professional development day emphasizes our district’s dedication to supporting our staff as lifelong learners,” said Jackie Noble, Director of Elementary Education. “It’s about giving our educators the resources and inspiration they need to make meaningful impact in their classrooms, schools, and beyond.”

EmpowerED Winter 2025 highlighted the importance of collaboration and choice, allowing staff to network, explore fresh ideas, and return to their classrooms with renewed energy.
