Twenty-five sophomore students at Shawnee High School were recently inducted into the school’s chapter of National Honor Society.

Students who had completed at least three semesters of coursework at SHS and had met certain academic criteria were invited to apply for NHS. These new members will complete a minimum of 10 hours of service each year of their junior and senior years.

NHS Chapter President Holly Valentine, along with fellow officers Gracyn Simpson and Zoe Davis, led the ceremony. Dr. Aaron Espolt, superintendent of Shawnee Public Schools, delivered a brief address to the new members and their families.

The newly inducted NHS members are Brandon Barr, Cody Blanchard, Trent Buchanan, Shay Budka, Kyla Castaneda, Ainsley Crane, Emma Galloway, Payton Hopkins, JaKaila Hurst-Roscoe, Tenielle Kidd, Scottlyn Koepke, Aniya Kowena, Sebastian Merritt, Teagan Mitchell, Skyla Murray, Amelia Parsons, Annaliese Price, Zachary Riggle, Kiley Sartin, Jadelyn Shotts, Kelly Templeton, Ellyssa Tomlin, Maria Vanderputten, Abigail Wade and Aubrey Winchester.

NHS is an organization that promotes the qualities of scholarship, service, leadership and character. The SHS chapter is led by their adviser Scott Bartley.
