SMS STEM
SMS STEM is on a mission to reimagine, redesign, and redefine STEM education to ensure learning and development for all. As a member of the OK Career Tech system, our goal is to provide students opportunities for career exploration and to practice 21st century skills.
eSports
eSports is a rapidly growing gaming competition, and SMS players have earned coveted spots at the state level.
The SMS eSports team competes in Rocket League and Super Smash Bros video games.
The team practices after school.
Robotics & Coding
SMS STEM students learn about computer science through coding classes and the Robotics Team.
Students learn coding through progressively more challenging courses in robotics and mobile app design.
The Robotics Team competes in First LEGO League and TSA Vex Challenge. Practice is after school.
Makerspace
SMS STEM students often have the opportunity to work on independent projects that unleash their creativity and allow them to pursue their own interests.
Our STEM Makerspace includes four 3D printers, two smart cutters, a class set of 3D pens, and much, much more!
Technology Student Association
The Technology Student Association (TSA) is a national organization of students engaged in STEM (science, technology, engineering, and mathematics).
Members of the SMS TSA Chapter learn through exciting competitive events, leadership opportunities, community service projects, and much more.
Community Partners
Partnerships with our community are essential to the success of STEM at SMS.
Our partners contribute as guest speakers, mentors, and sponsors. Some of our community partners are university professors, STEM business leaders, scientists, engineers, and more.
Design & Modeling
SMS STEM students discover the design process as makers, focusing on the influences of creativity and innovation in our lives.
Students practice measuring with accuracy and precision, communicate ideas with sketches, and implement principles of universal design.
STEM students apply what they learn to design unique and tangible projects.
Medical Detectives
SMS STEM students take on the role of real-life medical detectives, collecting and analyzing medical data to diagnose disease.
They solve medical mysteries through hands-on projects and labs.
Students measure and interpret vital signs, dissect a sheep brain, investigate disease outbreaks, and explore how a breakdown within the human body can lead to dysfunction.
Green Architecture
SMS STEM students become architectural ninjas, learning the way of the tape measure, architectural scale, and CAD software to create floor plans.
They choose sustainable materials and designs that balance profit with long-term effects on people and the planet.
Students gain practical experience framing walls and building a small house as a community service project.
