A Message from the Principal

Welcome to Shawnee Middle School.  The administration, faculty, and staff at Shawnee Middle School strive to make the learning process positive for each of our students.  Whether it's an amazing science experiment, Read and Scream event, or one of our excellent afterschool activities, learning at SMS is fun!

Our goal at Shawnee Middle School is to provide a well-rounded education meeting all of our students' needs.  SMS teachers and staff work tirelessly to ensure that we are creating successful future citizens of Shawnee and beyond.

Sincerely,

Keely Tolin, SMS Principal

Ms. Tolin is currently serving in her fifth year as principal of Shawnee Middle School. She graduated from Bethel High School and played basketball on scholarship at Oklahoma Baptist University where she received her bachelor's degree in education. Ms. Tolin furthered her educational career at East Central University where she received a master's degree in education administration. She is also an NCEE nationally trained administrator and is continually seeking opportunities to grow as a leader and educator.

Ms. Tolin comes from a family of educators and sees the value of a life-long commitment to education, arts, and athletics. Before Ms. Tolin became an administrator, she was a math teacher for eight years with Norman Public Schools and Shawnee Public Schools. Ms. Tolin spent six years as an assistant principal at Shawnee Middle School and was excited to step into the head principal position in 2021.

Her favorite thing about being a principal is the opportunity to support both staff and students in a greater capacity. If there is one piece of advice Ms. Tolin could give to her middle school students it would be to try new opportunities, make new friends, and work hard to discover the gifts and talents that make you unique.
